Background: Nestcare Clinic is a maternal and child health facility located in Blantyre, Malawi. The clinic is dedicated to delivering high-quality, compassionate care to women and children. A clean and hygienic environment is vital to achieving these standards, and the role of the Cleaner is central to maintaining these conditions.
Purpose of the Position: To ensure that the clinic premises — including consultation rooms, maternity areas, laboratories, waiting areas, offices, and sanitary facilities — are cleaned and disinfected regularly and thoroughly, in compliance with infection prevention and control (IPC) standards.
Key Responsibilities
A. Cleaning and Sanitation Duties
● Clean and disinfect consultation rooms, maternity wards, reception areas, bathrooms, waiting rooms, and offices on a daily basis.
● Mop floors, wipe surfaces, empty bins, dust furniture, and clean windows.
● Replenish hygiene supplies such as toilet paper, hand soap, and paper towels.
B. Infection Prevention and Control
● Follow proper IPC protocols when handling cleaning agents, equipment, and biohazardous waste.
● Use appropriate disinfectants in high-risk areas such as maternity, treatment, and laboratory rooms.
● Ensure proper segregation and disposal of medical and non-medical waste.
C. Equipment and Supplies Management
● Ensure cleaning materials and tools are well-maintained and stored properly.
● Notify the Clinic Manager of shortages or malfunctioning cleaning equipment.
● Use personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately while on duty.
D. Support to Clinic Operations
● Prepare and clean rooms before and after patient use.
● Assist with laundry duties if required (e.g., cleaning clinic linens or staff uniforms).
● Support setup for meetings, outreach events, or other clinic-related activities.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum of Malawi Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) or MSCE.
At least 1 year of experience in a cleaning or housekeeping role, preferably in a health facility.
Knowledge of infection prevention and control is a valuable asset.
Ability to read and follow cleaning instructions and schedules.

Working Conditions
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM; Saturday mornings or shifts as required.
Based entirely at Nestcare Clinic, Blantyre.
Supervision and Performance Appraisal
Subject to annual performance reviews, based on cleanliness, reliability, and adherence to IPC protocols.
