Background: Nestcare Clinic is a maternal and child health facility based in Blantyre, Malawi, providing high-quality and compassionate health services. The Porter plays a critical support role in ensuring that patients, materials, and equipment are moved efficiently within the clinic, contributing to a well-organized and safe healthcare environment.
Purpose of the Position: To assist in the transportation of patients, medical supplies, documents, and equipment within the clinic. The Porter also supports general cleanliness, waste disposal, and other non-clinical duties to ensure the smooth operation of the clinic.
Key Responsibilities
A. Patient Support and Movement
Escort or assist patients (including children, pregnant women, or elderly clients) to consultation rooms, laboratories, or other service areas.
Provide wheelchair or stretcher assistance as required.
B. Materials and Equipment Handling
Transport medical supplies, laboratory samples, equipment, and documents to designated departments or storage areas as needed.
Assist in receiving and organizing deliveries or supplies.
C. Waste and Hygiene Support
Support waste collection and disposal in accordance with infection prevention and control (IPC) guidelines.
Ensure safe and timely removal of medical and non-medical waste to designated areas.
D. General Facility Support
Help maintain cleanliness in public areas, waiting spaces, and entrances.
Assist with minor maintenance tasks and room preparations as needed.
Support in preparing rooms for patient admissions or procedures.
E. Emergency Assistance
Respond promptly to urgent calls for porter support during emergencies or patient transfers.
Follow safety protocols while handling patients or medical equipment.
Qualifications and Experience
Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) preferred.
Previous experience as a porter, cleaner, or support staff in a health facility is an advantage.
Basic knowledge of infection prevention and control (IPC) is an asset.
Ability to lift and move heavy objects safely.

Working Conditions
Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM; Saturday mornings or on-call support when required.
