Background: Nestcare Clinic is a maternal and child health facility located in Blantyre, Malawi. The clinic provides high-quality health services in a clean and welcoming environment. A well-maintained outdoor area contributes to the overall health, safety, and appearance of the clinic. The Gardener will support this by maintaining the clinic’s lawns, gardens, and outdoor spaces.

Purpose of the Position: To ensure that the clinic’s outdoor spaces are clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing. The Gardener is responsible for maintaining the grounds, including gardening, landscaping, and supporting minor outdoor maintenance work.

Key Responsibilities

A.      Gardening and Landscaping

●        Maintain the clinic's garden and green spaces through planting, watering, weeding, pruning, and mowing.

●        Trim trees, hedges, and shrubs to maintain a neat appearance.

●        Remove fallen leaves, litter, and garden waste from outdoor areas.

B.       Grounds and Facility Maintenance

●        Sweep and clean outdoor walkways, driveways, and entrance areas.

●        Ensure the outdoor environment is safe by clearing debris and slippery materials.

●        Report any structural damage or hazards in outdoor areas to the Clinic Manager.

C.     Tools and Equipment Care

●        Safely operate and maintain gardening tools and equipment (e.g., hoes, rakes, lawnmowers).

●        Store tools properly and keep the gardening shed clean and organized.

●        Report any equipment needing repair or replacement.

D.     Environmental and Safety Responsibilities

●        Apply basic pest control and composting methods as needed.

●        Follow health and safety procedures when handling tools or materials.

●        Support the clinic’s cleanliness and environmental health initiatives.

4. Qualifications and Experience

• Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) is an advantage.

• At least 1–2 years of experience in gardening, landscaping, or groundskeeping.

• Knowledge of local plants, gardening techniques, and seasonal care.

• Basic knowledge of safe tool handling and grounds maintenance.

Working Conditions

• Working hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM; Saturday mornings as needed.

Supervision and Performance Evaluation

• Subject to annual performance evaluations, focusing on cleanliness, consistency, and reliability.
