NURSING OFFICER
Position Title: Nursing Officer

Background: Nestcare is a private Maternal and Child Health (MCH) clinic located in Blantyre, Malawi. The clinic offers comprehensive MCH services including antenatal care, safe deliveries, postnatal care, child immunizations, family planning, and health education. As part of its commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care, the clinic seeks to employ a competent Nursing Officer to lead and support the nursing team in delivering excellent maternal and child health (MCH) services.
Purpose of the Position: To provide professional clinical nursing services and ensure the effective delivery of maternal and child health services. The Nursing Officer will ensure adherence to standards of care and execute nursing activities within the clinic.
Key Responsibilities
A. Clinical and Technical Duties
Provide high-quality nursing care to women and children, encompassing antenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and pediatric care.
Recognize complications and initiate referrals.
Monitor maternal and neonatal vitals using standard tools (e.g., partograph).
Ensure safe administration of medications, vaccines, and IV fluids.
Maintain infection prevention and control standards at all times.
B. Administrative Duties
Ensure accurate and timely completion of patient records and clinical registers.
Assist in managing clinic supplies, medicines, and equipment.
Prepare monthly reports related to nursing services and maternal and child health (MCH) activities.
Participate in planning and budgeting for nursing services.
C. Community and Health Promotion
Support community outreach and health education on maternal and child health.
Promote awareness of immunization, breastfeeding, nutrition, and family planning.
Collaborate with local health authorities and stakeholders as needed.
Qualifications and Experience
A Diploma in Nursing or Midwifery. A Degree in Nursing or Midwifery is a plus..
Valid registration and practicing license from the Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi.
At least 3–5 years of experience, with a minimum of 2 years in MCH services.
Experience in supervisory or team leadership roles is a strong advantage.
Knowledge of Malawi’s Essential Health Package (EHP) and national MCH guidelines.
Required Competencies and Skills
Strong clinical and leadership skills.
Excellent communication, supervision, and interpersonal abilities.
Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Proficient in English and Chichewa.
Basic computer skills
Working Conditions
The Clinic will offer 24-hour services, 7 days a week. The Nursing Officer will be expected to work 40 hours a week on a rotational basis to cover the operational hours.
Supervision and Performance Management
Performance appraisals will be conducted annually, with a focus on clinical care quality, team management, and compliance with professional standards.
